The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in the ZF Mgcawu District celebrates women month in Lime Acres (Kgatelopele Municipality) with the theme: Empowering Women & Transforming Communities.
On August 13, 2024, the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature ZFM Mgcawu Regional Office celebrated Women’s Month with a significant event: a Women's Dialogue in Lime Acres, centred on the theme “Empowering Women, Transforming Communities, and Creating Active Citizens.” The event had a dual focus: educating community members about the legislature's role and addressing critical issues facing women in the region.
The first segment of the programme aimed to familiarize Participants with the legislature's three core functions: Law Making, oversight, and Public Participation. This segment sought to enhance the community’s understanding of the legislature’s mandate and inform them about engagement opportunities. Participants learned about how they could utilize the legislature’s petition system, attend public hearings, and participate in various sectoral events hosted by the Legislature.
The dialogue then shifted to discuss the specific challenges faced by women in the ZF Mgcawu district. Key issues included Gender Equality, Inclusive Economic Growth, and Equitable Access to Land and Health Care. The purpose of the dialogue was two- fold: to allow women to raise issues affecting them within the district and to enable an open discussion in addressing the above listed discussion areas and to seek solutions by way of making resolutions
During the dialogue, participants were allowed to make and came up with key resolutions, these resolutions were captured by the (NCPL)-research unit, of which all resolutions will be forwarded to the relevant committee for further discussion and consideration.
Through this dialogue, the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature demonstrated its commitment to not only understanding but actively addressing the needs of its communities, aiming to foster an environment where women participation can thrive and contribute to societal transformation. The attendees were the Mayor of the Kgatelopele Municipality who welcomed the delegates and also officials from the municipality and those of the NCPL.
